Touchdown Chili
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6–8 hours
Method: Slow Cooker
Servings: Approximately 6–8
Hearty, cozy, and made for game day, Slow Cooker Touchdown Chili is an easy dump-and-go dinner packed with ground beef, beans, peppers, and plenty of flavor. A touch of brown sugar and apple cider vinegar gives this chili the perfect sweet and tangy balance, while your choice of beer, hard cider, or beef broth makes it easy to customize.
It's perfect for football Sundays, fall gatherings, or busy weekdays when you want to come home to dinner already done.
Ingredients
2 lbs ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
2 bell peppers, diced
1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
2 packets chili seasoning
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp brown sugar
4 oz water
1 can or bottle of beer or hard cider OR approximately 12 oz beef broth
Instructions
Brown the beef. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
Add to the slow cooker. Transfer the cooked ground beef to your slow cooker. Add the diced onion, bell peppers, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, chili seasoning, garlic, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, water, and your choice of beer, hard cider, or beef broth.
Stir & cook. Stir everything together until well combined. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours.
Serve. Give the chili a good stir and ladle into bowls. Add your favorite toppings and serve warm.
Note: This recipe is very forgiving and does well with a longer cook time, making it a great option for workdays, football Sundays, or entertaining.
Topping & Serving Ideas
Shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, diced red onion, sliced jalapeños, green onions or chives are all fair game. Serve it with cornbread, tortilla chips, or even over a baked potato if you want to turn it into an extra-hearty meal.
Shell’s Supper Club Tip 🤎
Set up a little chili bar and let everyone build their own bowl. It's ridiculously easy for a football party or casual get-together—and somehow putting toppings in individual bowls makes dinner look like you tried way harder than you did. 😂
